And they’re off!  The first races of the elite season were held at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Center today as Canada’s best duked it out at the Haywood Canada Cup #1.  It was a chilly morning wake-up on Silver Star Mountain as the overnight lows dipped to -17C warming slightly throughout the day to a high of -11C.  But despite the cool weather, everyone was ready to hunt for the win in their respective categories, as only a few races remain before the main selection races to the January World Cups in Canmore, AB.

Athlete Profile: Milaine Theriault

Despite having eased up on training and clocking more time with her family than at races this season, newly retired Canadian National Cross Country Ski Team racer Milaine Theriault is no slouch. For the first time in 12 years she often skips the previously hard-wired ritual of a morning run or roller ski in favour of staying in and taking it easy. And even though she sometimes feels the familiar tug of her still-strong competitive streak while watching her former teammates train at the Canmore Nordic Centre, Theriault is confident and content with her new lifestyle.

Athlete Profile: Kazuma Takahashi

In the world of nordic skiing, it's not often that foreigners choose Canada as their homebase for training.  Six years ago, Kazuma Takahashi made the big move from Japan to Calgary, Alberta, choosing Canada by elimianation as his nordic destination.  For the next 5 years, he spent the winters in Canada, racing on the Canada Cup circuit and mixing in some ski marathons when he could.  Team X-C.com was fortunate to be able to recruit Kazuma mid-way through the season last year and benefit from his consistent skiing results and strong technical skills.  This year, he chose to switch up the scenery a bit, making the big move to Canmore.  X-C.com managed to corner him this week for a quick interview...

Team X-C.com Post Strong Roller-Ski TT Results
The National Ski Team held a rollerski-skate TT last week on their standard 4km uphill course in Canmore. For those of you that aren't familiar with the course, it starts at the T-intersection at the base of Three Sisters Drive, and runs up past the Nordic Centre main entrance ending at a few metres before the avalanche gate on Smith Dorien Hwy (Spray Lakes Rd).
